Disney Parks pin trading basics
By the ParkVault team · Updated
Pin trading began at the Disney parks in 1999 and has become one of the most active collecting communities around the resorts. Guests trade pins with each other and with cast members, and many collectors buy and sell pins they cannot find in stores.
Types of pins
- Open edition: made without a set limit and usually available for a longer period.
- Limited edition (LE): made in a stated quantity, often numbered, and usually sold once.
- Limited release (LR): released for a limited time rather than a stated count.
- Mystery and blind-box sets: sold sealed, so the pin inside is unknown until opened.
- Jumbo pins: larger pins, often sold as display pieces.
- Event pins: made for a festival, party or anniversary.
Reading a pin listing
A good listing shows the front and the back of the pin, the edition information, and whether the pin is sold individually or as a set. The back of an authentic pin carries a stamped pattern and copyright text, which is why sellers photograph it. Ask for a photo of the back if a listing does not show one.

Buying pins resale
- Open the exact product page and compare every listing for that design.
- Check the edition. A limited edition pin and an open edition pin of the same character are different items.
- Read how to spot problems in our guide to fake pins before buying a high-value pin.
- ParkVault does not authenticate pins. Photos and condition are stated by the seller.
